You may be asking yourself why my Udemy self-publishing course explains only how to self-publish a book on Amazon. After all, there are plenty of other self-publishing opportunities available on the web, including Smashwords, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books and Instagram Spark.
Well, it turns out that I can make more money self-publishing exclusively on Amazon than I can from publishing on all these sites combined. Here’s how:
Amazon offers a program called KDP Select to eBook self-publishers. This program allows indie authors to enroll their books for 90 days at a time to receive special rewards, including additional revenue from the Kindle Unlimited book-lending program and the ability to run discounted and free book promotions. But there’s a catch: to enter the KDP Select program, your eBook must be published exclusively on Amazon. That means no Smashwords, Barnes & Noble or Apple Books revenue.
But wait! How do I make more money by publishing on fewer sites? It turns out that I made 16% of my revenue from Smashwords, Barnes & Noble and Apple Books when I first started. Later, I switched to Amazon exclusively and entered my books into the KDP Select program. As a result, I generate almost 50% of my book revenue from Amazon book loans through the Kindle Unlimited program. I generate additional revenue from KDP Select’s $0.99 promotional sales, where I keep 70% of the revenue rather than the standard 35% Amazon awards for sales under $2.99.
Because I make more money, I publish exclusively on Amazon and teach you to do the same. My online video training courses and books address self-publishing exclusively on Amazon. Besides, it saves time and improves focus to self-publish on a single platform.
Note: If wide distribution is more important than revenue (e.g., remembrances), self-publish your book on as many platforms as possible.
I’ll see you in the classroom,
